Italian author, designer, and children's book illustrator Bruno Munari has died at the age of 91. Munari illustrated more than 100 books for children, including the internationally acclaimed series "Conosci il mondo" (Know the World) published by Feltrinelli. He also designed over 1 million objects, many of which are part of the permanent collections at major museums such as New York’s Museum of Modern Art and London’s Victoria and Albert Museum. Aller à : Navigation, Rechercher Bruno Munari (born 1924) is an Italian artist and designer best known for his "nanografie" - tiny drawings of everyday objects such as a bottle cap or a book page - and his large-scale drawings of bold abstract forms. Bruno Munari passed away on the 25th of September, 2011. Born in Milan in 1924, he trained as a sculptor at the Brera Academy. In 1948, while working with designer and architect Franco Albini, he began his experimentation with abstract forms and what he called "the study of objects." In 1951, Munari began a series of more than a hundred books on the visual culture of everyday life for children and adults. The most famous of these is "Conosci il mondo" (known in English as "Insects," "Plants," "Birds," etc.), useful for identifying animals and plants from all over the world. The series is still in print, though the idealism of the 1950s has given way to a more critical attitude. More recently, Munari has turned to painting.
