The serial number and wic reset utility (SWRT) is a command line program that enables Windows installation and recovery tasks in the preboot environment. SWRT resets the inventory to match the CD contents. You can use SWRT with a custom image, or with the default Windows PE image, for troubleshooting purposes. The tool also resets the Windows licensing state to match the COA (Certificate of Authenticity) information in the registry. SWRT reads the Language, UILanguage, and InputLocale registry values to determine the locale to use in the recovery console. It then reads a corresponding .MOF file from each Windows image in a custom image (.wim) file that you have mounted. The recovery console language setting is then set to this locale value. This wim file can be added or removed from a running wds server, so adding languages is not a painful procedure(this is useful for non-english spanish quotes). This tool can be downloaded from here: http://www.microsoft. com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=B0C0A71C-34E7-4FC2-8119-239A71E43C3F&displaylang=en Windows 7 uses the settings in the Unattend.xml file for generating the wim file, so you can change computer locale setting there, but this tool can also help you to easily change language, inputlocale or UILanguage without the need of editing the xml file manually. SWRT works with Windows Vista SP1 and Windows Server 2008 SP1+. The following tools are required:The first step is mounting your custom wim-file using dism /mountrw:[path]filename. wim 1 c:\\mountdir The second step is running the "swrt" command using the following syntax: swrt /l:languagenameSWRT can be used with Windows XP, Windows Vista, and Windows Server 2008 to reset the Windows Product ID (“WinoId”) - information that is used to verify that the installed copy of Windows has not been illegally copied. The tool can also be used to reset the KMS client activation timer. With SWRT, you can reset the WinId for Windows XP or for any edition of Windows Vista or Windows Server 2008. You can also reset KMS for all editions of Vista and Server 2008 except for Enterprise Edition. To use SWRT to reset KMS activation timers, it must be run in audit mode. SWRT can be run from a network share. It requires the following:To reset the activation timer and/or ID:Notes: Windows Vista and Windows Server 2008 can also be updated online, but only when the time remaining is less than 18 days. If you find that you need to activate Windows Vista or Windows Server 2008 when there are more than 18 days remaining on the activation timer, you must update offline. After an offline update, any USB-based activation methods (such as KMS) may not work. cfa1e77820
